Faced with another murky, soggy day outside, I found myself looking back at the shoots over the last year and one of the favourites was a day trip to Keukenhof with Heather Edwards and Gillian Plummer in late April. Spring was very late and the flight was booked, so we all just kept our fingers crossed that there would be some tulips out.
We landed at Schiphol Airport to a dank and grey morning and recall thinking ‘oh well, at least the coffee is good….’ Within the hour of walking in the gates there was beautiful, soft, milky light and very little breeze. What a change! There were not as many tulips out but the ones that were, as usual, were very photogenic en masse. Daffodils were good though…There was enough to keep happily busy for the day.
Had there been too many choices I would have been dizzy with indecision so probably just as well! We all generated some interest amongst the other visitors with our tripods and gear and it wasn’t as crowded as other times so I came to regard it as quite a successful day. I always regret not being able to stay for longer but hotels and travel can make it quite a complicated trip but a day can be pretty tiring. I am, though, looking forward to the next one…
Here is one from the day...Tulipa humilis
